We are on the cusp of fall down here in SWFL and it’s a great time to be on the water! What a blessing it is to have a fishery that produces year-round. There is still mangrove snapper almost everywhere we cast a line and plenty of speckled sea trout roaming around the grass flats. Snook have been biting inshore and offshore on the nearby reefs not far off the coast of Sanibel Island.
We’re coming up on one of my favorite times to be on the water. September and October are indeed a special couple of months down here for the redfish. They are here year-round of course but these next couple of months are when they show up in full, gathering in large schools which makes them a blast to go after. We can already see things heating up as they are showing themselves more and more each day we go out.
Pitching cut baits along the mangrove walls is always a surefire way to grab a few. They also appear on the flats and stage themselves in the sand potholes. You never know when you’re going to be cruising around and all of a sudden a school of a few dozen to 100+ are spotted cruising a flat or mangrove wall. They even show up in monstrous schools on the outside of the beaches which can be an insanely entertaining way to chase after these gorgeous fish with live or artificial bait. If a trophy SWFL redfish is something you’re interested in, then these next couple of months are the time you need to get out on the water with one of us to make that goal a reality.
I look forward to getting you out on the water!
Tight lines,
Capt. Hunter Tinsley
